EDUCATIONAL SUPPLEMENTS TAXI ART BOOKS are published with a separate Educational Supplement for each book. Philippa Hobbs, an artist, writer and educationalist is the series editor for the TAXI edsups as we call them. These publications have been created by Hobbs and other arts educators in collaboration with the respective artist and writers of each book and contain worksheets for students as well as guidelines for teachers. The supplements stress a learner-based approach to art teaching, where learners, and their teachers, are encouraged to draw on their own resources of imagination and experience. They are designed specifically for wide-ranging subject integration in senior school curricula, but are adaptable for informal art training as well as tertiary institutions. Conceptual worksheets and practical projects give learners the opportunity to develop their own critical thinking, visual literacy and writing skills. The Project recently was able to arrange sponsorship from the European Union's CWCI which allowed over 80 teachers from schools in disadvantaged areas to be trained in the use of the supplements by the IMBALI Visual Literacy Project based in Johannesburg. The edsups are the basis of the TAXI Arts Education Programme, and in order to further promote it's Audience Development Programme, David Krut Publishing recently organised a workshop for an invited group of aspiring arts writers in the hope of widening the base of authors who can contribute to future arts education. |
